Box Score Lady Marauders beat Clark Atlanta for fourth straight victory
ATLANTA, Georgia - The Central State Lady Marauders increased their winning streak to four games with Thursday night's 73-65 SIAC victory over Clark Atlanta University.
Central State opened the first ten minutes of the game shooting a tremendous 58% from the field but turnovers kept CAU close and the Panthers managed to take a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. CSU cleaned up its miscues and took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers, 21-10. Thanks to the play of guard
Sierra Harley and the offensive rebounding of
Mustafa Notter and
Falon Edwards, the Lady Marauders ended the half on a 10-0 run to take a 36-26 lead at the break.
The Panthers quickly cut the deficit down to three when they opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run. CSU responded with an 8-3 run and built their lead back up to 14 at the 2:13 mark when Harley made back-to-back baskets. Entering the fourth quarter, CSU maintained a 56-45 lead.
The Lady Marauders remained ahead by double figures until CAU's Reyana Miller converted to cut the deficit to 9 with 4:39 left on the clock. CAU then scored five straight points via the free throw line to pull within five of CSU. The Lady Marauders came up with a big basket on the next possession as
Ghameerah McCullers found
Jasmin Dancy for the easy lay-in to put CSU up 67-60 with 2:58 to play. CAU scored the next three points to trail by 4 but that would be as close as the Panthers would get. Harley drained a three-ball on the Lady Marauder's next trip down the floor. She then added two free throws on CSU's next possession to put her team up by 8 with just 23 seconds left. CAU was unable to generate anything more on offense and the Lady Marauders celebrated their fourth straight win.
Central State held a 61-33 rebounding advantage and outscored Clark Atlanta, 25-8, in second chance points.Â
Harley led all scorers with 21 points. The junior guard also grabbed 10 rebounds and finished with 3 steals. Notter recorded 10 points and 9 rebounds. Dancy came off the bench to score 10 points.
Falon Edwards led all rebounders with 12 and added 7 points as Central State improved to 7-5 overall with a 4-2 record in SIAC play.
Marissa Mandeldove's 19 points led the Panther efforts. CAU dropped to 5-7 on the year and 1-3 in the conference.
The Lady Marauders will go for their fifth straight victory on Friday against Carver Bible College. The game is scheduled for a 6 pm tip-off in Atlanta, Georgia.
