Box Score The Lady Marauders extend winning streak with 69-57 victory over rival Kentucky State
WILBERFORCE, Ohio - The Central State Lady Marauders extended their winning streak to nine games with a 69-57 victory over rival Kentucky State on Saturday night.
Playing in a sold out Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium, CSU's
Mustafa Notter scored two quick baskets and Rhani Bell hit from beyond the arc to give the Lady Marauders an early 7-2 lead. KSU responded with a 7-2 run of their own to knot the score, 9-9, midway through the first quarter. A three ball by
Zana Godoy sparked a CSU 10-2 run and the Lady Marauders took a 19-13 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Thorobrettes quickly erased the CSU lead and went on a 14-3 run as an Erin Spencer layup but KSU ahead, 27-22, with 3:47 left in the first half. Central State once again answered 10-0 run to end the half and took a 35-27 edge at intermission.
The Lady Marauders built their lead up to 11 after a
Falon Edwards three pointer with 1:29 remaining in the 3
rd quarter, but KSU bounced back to cut the deficit down, 50-46, entering the final 10 minutes of play.
KSU's  Brittani Rizzi tied the game, 52-52, with a make from beyond the arc at the 7:01 mark of the fourth quarter. CSU's defense tightened and the offense went on a 11-1 run capped off by a Bell three pointer to put the Lady Marauder up, 63-53, with 2:43 remaining. KSU managed just 2 points down the stretch and CSU was able to run valuable time off the clock to cruise to the 12-point victory.
"We tried to chase KSU off the three point line and I thought we did a good job of eliminating second chance opportunities," CSU Head Coach
Sheba Harris said. "It was a very good team effort against a very good team in KSU."
KSU gave the ball away 19 times and CSU made them pay by outscoring the Thorobrettes, 30-7, in points off of turnovers.
Notter led the Lady Marauders with 15 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots.
Ghameerah McCullers also scored 15 on the night. Bell finished with 14 points and Edwards scored 11 points as Central State improved to 12-5 overall. Improving to 7-2 in conference play, CSU maintains its lead in the SIAC West Division.
KSU was paced by Erin Spencer's 12 points and 10 rebounds. The loss snapped KSU'S three game winning streak. The Thorobrettes currently stand at 7-9 on the season with a 4-5 ledger in SIAC play.
The Lady Marauders are off until Feb. 2 when they welcome Lane College to Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.
