Box Score Lady Marauders beat Miles to extend winning streak to seven games
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Lady Marauders of Central State University won their seventh straight contest with Saturday night's 77-64 victory over Miles College.
Miles took an early 15-6 lead after a three point play from Morgan Hardy but back-to-back three pointers from
Sierra Harley and
Rahni Bell helped bring CSU back to within three points at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Marauders gained momentum in the second quarter as
Ghameerah McCullers hit two quick shots and CSU went on a 8-0 run to take a 24-19 lead at the 6:41 mark. The Bears slowly cut away at the deficit and a Hardy layup tied the game, 25-35, with 4:52 left in the half. The teams continued to swap baskets to end the half tied, 36-36.
Both teams began the third quarter slowly before the
Rahni Bell caught fire for CSU scoring 8 straight points to spark a 11-2 run and giving her team a 49-42 lead at the 1:17 mark. Miles added a free throw and layup and CSU's
Chavon Banks converted two makes from the line as CSU led 51-45 entering the fourth quarter.
CSU opened the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run capped off by a
Sierra Harley three pointer for a 61-47 lead with 7:39 to play. From that point on, the Lady Marauders maintained control of the contest and cruised to the 13-point victory.
The Lady Marauders converted 9 of 22 shots from beyond the arc. Miles was just 2-16 from three point range which included an 0 for 9 performance in the second half.
Rhani Bell and
Ghameerah McCullers paced the CSU scoring with 21 points each. Harley finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. With the win, the Lady Marauders improve to 10-5 on the season and 5-2 in the SIAC.
Ashley McCrear led Miles' efforts with 11 points. MC fell to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC after Saturday's loss.
The Lady Marauders will continue conference play on Monday when they host Tuskegee University at 5:30 pm.
