Central State track & field competes at SIAC Championships
ROCK HILL, South Carolina - For the first time school history, the Central State track & field team competed in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships this past weekend.
CSU performances included season best marks for
Kalyn Brown,
Cidni Latimer,
Jeffrey Colby and Ronnie Fountain. Brown threw 12.26 meters in the women's shot put for a fourth place finish. Latimer also placed fourth with a time of 2.19.24 in the 800 meter run. Competing in the discus throw, Colby placed sixth with a toss of 38.18 meters. Fountain came in fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a pace of 55.53.Â
Darin Gooch, who has been a top performer for Central State all season long, narrowly missed the top spot of the podium in the men's long jump. His leap of 7.18 meters was second to the 7.19 meter jump from Stillman's Solomon Atosona. Gooch also finished in fourth place with a time of 11.19 in the 100 meter dash. Gooch teamed up with Fountain,
Dashad Tucker and Romario McKenzie to finish fourth in the 4x100 meter relay with a 42.22 performance.
As a team, the CSU women finished in seventh place in a field of 11 teams. Albany State was crowned as the SIAC women's track & field champions. The CSU men placed eighth while Benedict finished on top of the standings to take the men's title.
Central State is scheduled to compete at the Jesse Owens Classic on the campus of Ohio State University beginning on Friday.
