Central State takes first place in seven events at Wittenberg Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - In the final tune-up before next week's SIAC Championships, the Central State track & field team finished in the top spot in seven events at a cold and windy Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday.

On the women's side, Cidni Latimer collected her sixth win of her career in the 800 meter run with a pace of 2:36.84. In the women's shot put, Kalyn Brown threw her way to the top of the podium with a mark of 12.05 meters. In just her second competition of her collegiate career, freshman Ashley Dennis finished third in the event with a heave of 10.68 meters. Nicole Gardner took first place in the javelin with a career best toss of 26.42 meters.

The Central State men received solid performances from Darin Gooch, Devin Weems, Ronnie Fountain and Jamal Robinson. Gooch ran a time of 11.23 to win the 100 meter dash. Weems set the pace at 2:03.58 in the 800 meter run. Freshman Ronnie Fountain picked up a win in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.71. Jamal Robinson threw a season best 13.29 meters to win the shot put.

Central State will spend the next few days preparing for the SIAC Championships. This year's conference meet will be held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Competition begins on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday.
