Box Score Lady Marauders handle Lemoyne-Owen with 57-46 victoryWILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Lady Marauders overcame 29 turnovers and beat the Lemoyne-Owen Magicians, 57-46, on Saturday afternoon.
Central State center
Kourtni Perry came out with 8 points and 5 rebounds in the first 10 minutes of play to help give her team a 23-7 edge going into the second quarter. The two teams combined for just 12 points in the second quarter as the Lady Marauders took a 26-16 lead into halftime. A cause for the low scoring was a turnover plagued first half. The CSU offense was hindered by 20 miscues while the Magicians gave away possession on 15 occasions.
Paced picked up in the third quarter as the CSU bench combined for 10 of the team's 18 points in the period to put CSU up 12 going into the final frame. CSU did not commit a turnover in the first 6 minutes of the 4
th quarter as their lead ballooned to 18 after a
Mustafa Notter layup with 2:33 left on the clock. Late baskets by Lemoyne-Owen would not be enough to overcome the deficit as the Lady Marauders were able to snap a three game losing streak.
The Central State reserves outscored the LOC bench, 25-7. The Lad Marauders converted 41% from the field while the defense held the Magicians to a 24.6% shooting night.
CSU senior
Jordyn Bond led the team with 13 points.
Sierra Harley finished with 12 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. In foul trouble for most of the afternoon, Perry managed 11 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocked shots as CSU improved to 9-11 on the season and 5-8 in SIAC play.
Crystal Shields paced the Magicians with 16 points. No other LOC player finished in double-figures as the team fell to 6-14 overall with a 4-8 mark in the conference.
The Lady Marauders will turn their focus to out-of-conference rival Wilberforce University when the team makes the short trip to the WU campus on Monday. The women tip-off the action at 6 pm.
