Box Score Lady Marauders sail past Salem International, 81-64WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Central State sent their seniors off with a win in the final home game of the season with a 81-64 victory over Salem International on Tuesday night.
SIU hung around in the first quarter and trailed the Marauders, 25-20, after the first 10 minutes of play. CSU turned up their defense in the second quarter, holding the Tigers to just 8 points. Senior
Meshia Smith did the bulk of the scoring in the first half and helped her team to a 43-28 lead at halftime.
Central State opened the third quarter with a 10-0 run and took control of the game. Two
Jordyn Bond free throws gave CSU its biggest lead at 26 with 1:06 left in the quarter. While only managing 12 points in the final period, CSU still managed to coast down the stretch in route to the 17 point win.
CSU outrebounded the Tigers, 63-37 which led to a 24-9 advantage in second chance points.
In their final home game, the three seniors did the majority of the scoring for the Marauders. Smith finished with a season-high 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Kourtni Perry finished with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Bond finished with 9 points and 6 assists as the Lady Marauders improved to 11-12 on the season.
Salem International was paced by 18 points and 7 rebounds from TaShay Smith. With the loss, Salem International has dropped its last 11 meetings against CSU and fell to 3-22 overall.
Central State finishes off the regular season with a three straight road games starting with Thursday's SIAC contest against Spring Hill in Mobile, AL.
