Box Score Lady Marauders sail past Albany State, 68-48
WILBERFORCE, Ohio - The Lady Marauders will enter 2017 with a positive vibes after a 68-48 conference win over Albany State on Friday in the final game of the 2016 calendar year.
The Lady Marauders manufactured a 12-2 run midway through the first period and took a 21-12 lead after the first ten minutes of play. Led by the shooting of Sierra Harley and Ghameerah McCullers, the Lady Marauders scored the first 14 points of the second quarter to increase their lead to 35-12 with 5:47 remaining the half. The night continued to go CSU's way when forward Mustafa Notter made a three ball from half court at the buzzer to give her team a 40-18 advantage at the break.
"Believe it or not, Mustafa actually works on that shot in practice," CSU Head Coach Sheba Harris said. "She had a clean release and drained it to add to our momentum."
CSU continued to pad its lead in the early stages of the third quarter. The Lady Marauders put together a 7-0 run to open the half and took a comfortable 56-30 lead into the final period.
ASU had its highest scoring output of the night with 18 points in the fourth quarter but failed to make a significant dent in the Lady Marauder lead as CSU cruised to the 20-point win.
The Lady Marauders had an efficient shooting night converting 24 of 60 shot attempts and 12 of 16 free throw attempts. CSU also hit 8 shots from beyond the arc compared to just 1 make from Albany State.
McCullers and Harley paced the CSU scoring with 15 points each. Harley also added a game-high 6 assists and 4 steals.
Tamara Sellers chipped in with 10 points and 3 steals as CSU improved to 5-5 overall with a 2-2 record in SIAC play.
Elesha Foster led the Albany State effort with 13 points. With Friday's loss, ASU fell to 1-11 on the season with a 1-2 SIAC ledger.
The Lady Marauders will return to the hardwood at home on Monday against SIAC opponent Fort Valley State at 5:30 pm.

Central State University is allowing free admission to all home basketball games throughout the holiday break which includes games on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.
