Box Score Bench helps Central State pull away from Bluefield State
SALEM, West Virginia - The Central State Lady Marauders handled the Bluefield State Blues, 72-49, on Saturday thanks to a tremendous performance from the CSU reserve players.
The Lady Marauders' bench outscored the Blues' reserves, 43-8, and keyed a second half surge that turned a close game into a blowout victory.
Trailing 18-13 early in the second quarter, CSU put together a string of baskets to take a 23-20 lead. With 4:01 to play,
Sierra Harley was inserted into the lineup and scored 8 of her 9 points over the next 4 minutes to help give the Marauders a 31-26 lead at halftime.
CSU opened the third quarter on a 15-5 run capped off by a
Zana Godoy three pointer to extend the lead to 15 at the 6:01 mark. The Lady Marauders went on to outscore the Blues, 25-11, in the third frame to take a commanding 56-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Marauders were on cruise control through the majority of the fourth quarter, increasing their lead to 25 with a
Falon Edwards basket at the 6:57 mark. Every player on the CSU roster eventually made their way into the game and scored as the team celebrated the 23-point victory.
In addition to the boost from the bench, the Lady Marauders held a 30-4 edge in points scored off of turnovers.
Godoy came off the bench to lead CSU with 12 points as the Lady Marauders improved to 4-4 overall.
Bluefield State's Lyndsey Hattifled finished with a game-high 16 points. The Blues remain winless on the year with an 0-10 mark.
Central State will have two weeks of preparation before they open up SIAC play at home on Dec. 30 against Albany State University. The game is scheduled for a 4 pm tip-off.

Central State University is allowing free admission to all home basketball games throughout the holiday break which includes games on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.
