Box Score Central State bench outscored 43-22 as Lady Marauders fall to Claflin
ORANGEBURG, South Carolina - The Lady Marauders of Central State lost, 81-66, to the Lady Panthers of Claflin University in the opening game of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night.
A major factor in the outcome of the game was the battle of the benches. Three Lady Panthers came off the bench to score in double-figures as Claflin reserves outscored the CSU bench, 43-22. Claflin was also efficient from the field, converting 26 of 50 shot attempts. CSU was also outscored in the paint, 32-16.
Guard Nabresha Hughes led Claflin with 15 points. Briana Chisolm and Lariah Stevens led the CU bench with 13 points each. Carnique Marks also came off the bench to score 12 points while recording 4 blocked shots. With the win, Claflin improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in SIAC competition.
Sierra Harley paced the Lady Marauders with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Rhani Bell scored 13 points.
Ghameerah McCullers finished with 12 points on the night.
With the loss, the Lady Marauders have dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season and now stand with a record of 2-3 and 0-1 in conference play.
Central State continues SIAC play on Thursday when the team travels to play defending SIAC champion Benedict College. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm.
