Box Score Struggles continue for Lady Marauders in fourth straight loss

WILBERFORCE
, Ohio – Turnovers continue to plague the Central State women's basketball team as the Lady Marauders lost their fourth straight game at the hands of Clark-Atlanta University on Thursday.

CSU fought to keep the game close in the early stages of the game as the two teams were knotted at 14-14 with 2:21 remaining in the 1st quarter. Thanks to the hot hand of SIAC leading scorer MyKala Jones, CAU closed the quarter out on a 13-5 run to take a 27-19 lead after the opening 10 minutes of play.

CAU imposed its dominance in the second quarter by outscoring CSU 19-5 and took a commanding 46-24 lead into halftime. CAU shot an impressive 77% from beyond the arc in the first half while forcing 13 Marauder turnovers en route to the 22 point halftime advantage.

CSU managed to outscore CAU, 17-13, in the 3rd quarter but costly turnovers combined with difficulty to convert shots in the paint kept CSU from mounting any type of a comeback. The Panthers easily cruised to their fourth straight victory, 80-58, and improved to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in SIAC play.

The Lady Panthers scored 27 points off turnovers compared to just 16 for CSU. CAU also held a 17-3 edge in second chance points.

Jones led all scorers with 21 points and was a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line. Sydni Davis finished with 18 points and a game-high 5 assists.

Kourtni Perry finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Lady Marauders. CSU leading scorer Jordyn Bond was held to just 3 points, snapping a 6-game streak of scoring 10 or more points in a contest.

Falling to 3-8 on the season with a 1-5 ledger in the SIAC, CSU hopes to rebound when they travel to Detroit, MI to play Marygrove College on Monday night.
