Box Score Second half letdown dooms Marauders in loss to Albany StateALBANY, Georgia - Playing in the first game of 2016, the Central State Lady Marauders struggled in the second half resulting in a 70-50 loss to Albany State on Saturday.
The game was extremely competitive early on with back and forth action and both teams trading baskets throughout the opening 20 minutes. Going into hafltime, CSU clinged to a narrow 27-26 lead.
Unfortunately for CSU, their shots failed to find the bottom of the net as the team struggled from the field and the free throw line. While CSU found trouble scoring, ASU took advantage by going on a 13-2 run and eventually increased their lead to 51-35 at the end of the 3rd quarter. ASU opened the 4th quarter on a 6-0 run and remained in control throughout the final stanza en route to the 20 point victory.
The Lady Marauders struggles included a 30% conversion rate from the field, a 50% percent shooting performance from the free throw line as well as 25 team turnovers.
ASU's Keidra Green finished with a game high 21 points followed by Arisha Holston's 19 points. CSU's
Jordyn Bond and
Ghameerah McCullers paced the Marauders with 10 points each as the team fell to 3-6 overall with a 1-3 mark in SIAC play. ASU improved to 3-8 on the year with a perfect 3-0 SIAC record.
Central State cooncludes its Georgia road trip on Monday against Fort Valley State (2-10;1-3) at 5:30 pm.
