Box Score Lady Marauders fade away in loss to Kentucky State

FRANKFORT, Kentucky - The Lady Marauders of Central State University had their five game winning streak snapped by rival Kentucky State, 73-54, in Thursday night's SIAC action.

Taking on the top team in the SIAC West Division, the Lady Marauders remained poised through the first half. Returning to the lineup for the first time in 5 games, Shannon Defoe was a perfect 3 for 3 from the field for 7 points to help her team take a 32-31 lead at half. 

The Thorobrettes showed why they are considered one of the top teams in the conference in the third quarter. KSU managed a 16-2 run and outscored CSU, 23-11, in the quarter to gain control of the game. The fourth quarter was more of the same as the Thorobrettes put together a 9-2 run to increase their lead to 17. A Daphne Brown jumper gave KSU the largest lead of the night, 73-50, as KSU cruised to its sixth straight win.

KSU managed 48 points in the paint while the Lady Marauders scored just 22, mostly due to missed layups and failed putback attempts.The Marauders shooters converted just 25% from the field compared to a 53% conversion rate for KSU.

Jamesha Mosley led KSU with 20 points on an efficient 9 for 11 shooting performance. Aliyah Gipson finished with 16 points as KSU improved to 13-3 on the season with a 8-2 conference record.

Sierra Harley finished with 18 points to lead the Central State scoring. Thursday's loss drops the Lady Marauders to an 8-9 overall and 4-6 in the conference.

Central State will use the weekend to recover before hosting Lane College on Monday at 6 pm.
