Box Score Lady Panthers pounce on poor shooting Central State in second half

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – A four game home stand came to a disappointing end for the Central State women's basketball team in a 73-44 loss to Claflin University on Monday night.

After a competitive first half, Central State trailed the Panthers by just 1 point, 25-24, at halftime. The second half would be all Claflin as the Lady Marauders were held scoreless for the first 5 minutes and 22 seconds of the 3rd quarter. While CSU was struggling, Claflin built their lead up, 34-26, with 4:48 left in the period. Back-to-back CSU baskets brought the deficit down to 3 but the Marauders surrendered a 9-0 run to conclude the quarter and trailed, 43-31, heading into the 4th. Claflin put the game out of reach in the final 10 minutes of play, converting 10 of 14 shot attempts from the field to balloon their lead to 31 with 1:06 left to play. With the game in hand, Claflin dribbled out the clock to coast to the 29 point win.

With the victory, Claflin remains undefeated in SIAC play with a 3-0 mark. The Panthers are 6-3 overall heading into Saturday's home game against Eckerd College. CU had 5 players finished in double-figures led by Dominique Williams' 16-point performance.

CSU, which hit just 16 of 63 field goal attempts, had no players finish with higher than 8 points on Monday night. The team was a dismal 1 of 22 from beyond the arc and turned the ball over 19 times.

Central State heads into the holiday break with an overall record of 3-5 with a 1-2 ledger in conference play. The Lady Marauders return to action on Jan. 2 against Albany State in Albany, Ga.
