Box Score No. 25 ranked Benedict tops Lady Marauders in SIAC opener

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – In the first SIAC conference game in school history, the Central State women's basketball team lost to Benedict, 78-60, on Thursday night.

Entering the game ranked No. 25 in the latest USA Today Div. II poll, Benedict got out to early leads of 8 and 9 over CSU but were unable to pull away in the first 20 minutes of play. CSU closed the half on a 8-4 run to cut the Lady Tiger lead down to 39-35 at the break.

CSU cut the lead down to 43-40 after a Jordyn Bond three-pointer with 6:25 left in the 3rd quarter. Benedict quickly responded with a 7-0 run and maintained a healthy distance from the Lady Marauders for the remainder of the game. The Lady Tigers used another 7-0 run midway through the final quarter to go up 67-51 and continued to build their lead by as many as 20 before settling for the 18 point victory.

A key factor in the BC success was their ability to take advantage of CSU miscues. BC had 23 points off of turnovers compared to just 11 for the Lady Marauders. When they got to the line, the Lady Tigers converted 19 of 26 free throws compared a 12 for 20 performance from CSU.

Leading the way for Benedict where Regime McCombs, KaDeeja Vaughn and Dorothy Brown. The trio came off the bench to combine for 48 points with McCombs finishing with a game-high 21 points. With the win, Benedict improved to a perfect 4-0 ledger and are now 1-0 in conference play.

CSU's contributions included 12 points from guard Ghameerah McCullers and 10 from Kourtni Perry. Leading scorer Jordyn Bond was held to just 3 points on the night as CSU (2-4;0-1) fell to a ranked team for the second time this season.
