Box Score Raiders outduel Marauders in double overtime

COLUMBIA, Kentucky – A hot start and a solid finish led the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson to a 96-92 double overtime victory over the Central State Lady Marauders on Saturday afternoon.

Lindsey Wilson opened the 1st quarter with 5 made three pointers to help keep pace with CSU in the opening stanza. Jordyn Bond and Ghameerah McCullers led the Marauders in the second quarter in which CSU outscored LWC, 19-9, to take a 45-32 lead in halftime.

Bond led all scorers with 15 in the opening half while McCullers contributed with 10 to help give the Marauders the 13 point lead.

While the Marauders struggled in the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter, Lindsey Wilson went on a 13-0 run to take a 57-55 lead with 1:08 left in the frame. However, the Marauders battled back to take a 62-58 lead heading into the fourth quarter thanks to the play of forward Kourtni Perry, who did most of her scoring in the second half.
Central State began to pull away in the beginning of the fourth as they took a 69-60 lead with 5:06 to play in regulation, but the Blue Raiders battled back thanks to play of Chanel Roberts. Lindsey Wilson cut the Marauders' lead to one point with 2:19 left in regulation. Roberts, who converted all 8 shot attempts in the second half, tied the game 74-74 with 24 seconds to play to eventually force overtime.

In the first period of extra time, both teams struggled offensively tallying just six points each in the quarter as the game remained deadlocked at 80-80. It appeared that CSU may escape with a victory when Perry went to the line with just 3.3 seconds left. Perry hit the first to tie the game but saw her second attempt rim out as the game went to double overtime.

The Blue Raiders controlled the second overtime period as they scored the first two points and then extended their lead to as many as six points. Central State kept the game close, but they were unable to pull ahead as the Blue Raiders went on to claim the 4 pint victory.

LWC, which improved to 5-1 overall, was led by Roberts' 26 point performance. Roberts finished the game shooting a perfect 10 for 10 from the field.
Bond led CSU in scoring for the fourth straight game with 26 points. She also grabbed 13 rebounds and 2 steals despite the loss. Perry finished with 24 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. McCullers chipped in with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Falling to 1-3 on the season, the Lady Marauders have a week to prepare for their home opener next Saturday against Slippery Rock University (3-1). The action will tip-off at 2 pm from Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.
