Box Score West Chester makes second half run to top Central StateWEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania – The Central State women's basketball team was outscored 52-34 in the second half as 25
th ranked West Chester University went on to win 80-67 on Sunday afternoon.
Sunday's game was truly a tale of two halves. The Lady Marauders came out poised to upset West Chester and used a 13-0 run in the 2
nd quarter to take a 26-19 lead.
Jordyn Bond led the way for CSU in the first two quarters with 13 points while
Ghameerah McCullers came off the bench to score 8. The Lady Marauder defense held the Golden Rams to just 26% shooting from the field and forced 10 first half turnovers as CSU took a 33-28 lead into the locker room.
In danger of losing on their home court for the second straight night, West Chester responded with pressure to the CSU ball handlers, forcing 16 turnovers in the second half. In part to CSU's inability to break the press, WC enjoyed a 12-3 run midway through the 3
rd quarter to reclaim the lead. WC guard Dallas Ely drained a three pointer as the 3
rd quarter buzzer sounded to put her team up 56-51. From that point on, the Rams never looked back. West Chester scored the first 6 points of the 4
th quarter and increased their lead to as much as 18 after a Jasmen Clark converted three ball. Down 76-58 with just 4:13 remaining, CSU was unable to make a significant run and fell to 0-2 on the season.
Bond finished with 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Lady Marauders. McCullers finished with 14 points but was guilty of 8 turnovers in the loss.
Improving to 1-1, the Rams had 5 players finished in double figures with Dallas Ely leading the way with 18 points to go along with 9 rebounds.
Central State (0-2) will travel to Frankfort, KY on Friday to play Kentucky Wesleyan as part of the CY Russell Classic. Hosted by Kentucky State, Friday's game is scheduled for a 6 pm tip-off in the Exum Center.
