Box Score Nunley-Lash leads CSU to third straight win
Wilberforce, OH - Senior Demtria Nunley-Lash had her best game of the season, leading Central State to its third straight victory with a 88-72 win over Ohio Valley.
The Lady Marauders are enjoying their longest winning streak of the season and are now 5-11 overall with a 3-5 mark in the conference.
Nunley-Lash, one of the team's leading scorers a year ago, had early season struggles before erupting for a team-high 19 points and 7 rebounds on Saturday afternoon. The combo-guard poured in CSU's first 6 points of the game and served as a catalyst in the Marauders 13-0 run midway through the first half. CSU led by as many as 24 in the first before taking a 50-30 lead at the break.
"It was really about time for me to perform," Nunley-Lash said. "My teammates and coaches kept their confidence in me and it feels good to deliver. I am excited for this team and where we can go from here."
CSU never trailed in the second, leading by double-figures for the entire half. The lone bright spot for Ohio Valley was its 9 for 20 performance from the three point line and a game-high 21 points from Danielle Dunnagan. For the Fighting Scots of OVU, the downfall may have been their lack of depth as CSU won the battle of the benches with a 26-3 edge in points scored. CSU forward Kourtni Perry led all reserves with 18 points. Jasmine Cooper recorded her third straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Iniquia Snell chipped in with 10 points and is now 12 away from her 1500th collegiate career point. "Our ladies have really bought in to what we have been working on in practice over the last few weeks," CSU head coach Sheba Harris said. "It was a great team win today. It was also good to finally see Demetria find some confidence. We have a quick turnaround against our rival Kentucky State on Monday and we expect Demetria to keep performing at this level."
Looking to extend their winning streak, Central State travels to Frankfort, KY on Monday to play out-of-conference rival Kentucky State (10-6 overall).
